Two Lifers in Ten Minutes

It was only half- past six in the morning as I looked out of the bedroom window to see if there was any wind blowing the pepper trees in the lane.No wind ,thats good news, as I wanted to go down to the marsh to see if any new birds had arrived; and get some decent photographs ~ hopefully !!  So it was a quick cuppa and off down the lane.

 Black Tailed Godwit

As I parked the car I could see the Black -tailed godwit had come back after a week away ,along with some Black- winged stilt and some Ruff.

I decided to walk up to the far end of the marsh as there were some Whinchat there a few days ago and I might be able to get a decent shot from there.Just as I came around the corner of some large rocks I saw what looked like a pipit perched on a stone. As I got the scope focussed I could see it was a male Red -throated pipit(a lifer for me ~ pictured below).

As I turned around to look down the marsh, a small flock of birds landed just across from me on some new corn -stalks about 15 yards away.I zoomed in on what looked to me like Corn bunting ,at first glance, but I soon realised it was a flock of Greater short - toed lark (pictured below) yet another lifer. Two in ten minutes absolutely brilliant.

I went further along the cornfield, gazing across the marsh hoping for a shot of the Great bittern I had nearly stepped on the previous week ,but no luck this time;but never mind ,it was a great morning so it was a walk back to the car and home for breakfast.

Happy days!!!
