A Week Out and About

This week saw us walking around Zeytenler,Yalli,Old Cesme and of course our favourite, Ildiri, plus a nice afternoon down at one of the deserted beachs.

The weather is above average for the time of year and we are all praying for rain otherwise we could be in trouble later on..So it was off to Zeytenler, first for a picnic down the lane near the beach.
One of the first birds we saw was a rather nice -looking male Woodchat shrike and a Long legged buzzard being mobbed by a Kestrel, then at last, after months of trying, I managed to get a half -decent shot of a Jay in an orchard .

The following day we decided to go for a walk up to Old cesme to see if any of the orchids had come into bloom .No orchids but we did manage to see a Hoopoe and a Collared flycatcher.

We decided to go down to the beach at Altinkum bay on Wednesday. There was'nt a soul in sight ,so we put the loungers out on the rocks near some scrub -roses.It was then I noticed a Hoopoe was actually in the scrub in the carpark, along with a pair of Collared flycatcher and a pair of nesting Goldfinch, this time I got quite a good shot of all the birds.

Today we went for a walk up to the old deserted Ottoman village of Karakoy. It was the hottest day of the past week and Carol was looking for flowers to press for her new collection.Actually it turned out to be the best day so far for birds, with me seeing 3 lifers with a pair of Subalpine warbler,a Green woodpecker which are quite thin on the ground around these parts. Then we saw a Goshawk circling above the village;I must remember to take the camera next time as there are so many different species of butterfly around at the moment.

I should be able to get some decent shots .
